Documentation and Reflective Record on the Process
Week 1:
Brief given. Gathering of information from the lecturer and details of what is required of us to complete the brief.
Week 2
This week I need to do research and decide on a theme to work in
collaboration with another department within the UHI network. I am unsure at this stage what to do and who to work with. I enjoyed the lecture last week and there was discussion about networks. So, I think that will be my starting point so I begin looking at network diagrams.
Week 3
I've been thinking about networks in regard to the broken relational networks that face-to-face social interactions with each other are affected by the global pandemic and that we are using more digital means to socialise with each other. We have limited social opportunities just now but I would like the project I do to promote face-to-face interactions and not so much digital. So, it will be a socially engaged project.
I have to write up a proposal for the project. For this I was researching Devon Projects 'Town is Garden' and 'Timebank' both of these projects socially engage people in the projects. They use the premise of sharing time and skill sharing for the betterment of others /community and the bonus is that you can learn something yourself from these interactions. For my project I would like to use this as my basis that of sharing time and skill sharing.
I have been receiving emails from the support department (as this is circulated to all students) who run a weekly session called 'socia bubble'. This got me thinking about a collaboration with them. Initially my thoughts are to look at using the 'Timebank' model and perhaps if permission is given that I and perhaps a few others run session on something that we are skilled at for the benefit of the group.
Week 4
I sent an email to April Mackie who run 'socia bubble' about my initial proposal. I also asked some questions about the function of the group. I got a reply immediately that she is on annual leave and will be back to work in a week.
Week 5
April emailed back she explains to me that the students come to the session for a cuppa and a chat. She also tells me that now very many people are attending at present that the session were popular to start with but now only a few attend. She tells me I am welcome to still attend.
This get me rethinking my proposed idea as I think what I have come up with is a bit too complicated and I begin to think about the concept a cuppa and a chat and this gives me the idea that I simply run a workshop with the support department to share my creative skills for the benefit of the students who attend. So I am going to run a workshop where they will decorate a mug. This can be gifted to someone else or simply used to share a cuppa and a chat with someone else. that the creation of this simple decorated mug continues social engagement and human interaction.
Week 6
Arrange via email the art workshop with April. She tells me that not very many attend only 1 or 2 and I email back saying that it's ok as long as I collaborate with someone else within the UHI network. We arrange to run the art workshop next Wednesday which is the 9th of December.
I begin prep work. I look for designs and motivational quotes online and print them off to give them inspiration if they are stuck for some. I look online for information on using sharpies to decorate mugs and how to keep the images from washing off.
I buy mugs and gather sharpies and inspirational materials.
Week 7
