Tracy Dougall Contemporary Art
Artist Statement

My artwork explores connections and memories. I express these themes in a number of ways such as landscape work that investigates connections to familiar places and the memories of time spent there with loved ones. Through portraiture mainly of family members capturing a moment in time and place. Also, I enjoy creating automatic artworks as a means of relaxation and self–expression.
Wellbeing is at the heart of my practice. This brought about by bringing up daughters with mental and physical health needs and using art and creative activities for their health and wellbeing. Therefore, witnessing first-hand, the benefits that art brought to them in distraction from symptoms, management of their conditions and joy in learning new skills. This leading me to use art in community settings with young people for the betterment of their health and wellbeing.
The media I use is mainly painting, print, collage and mixed media. Mixed media is my preferred choice at present as I feel it gives the work greater dimension and areas of interest. I also like to play and experiment with different techniques and processes.
My main inspiration are artists that focus on similar themes to myself. Artists that investigate family life and memories. I enjoy looking at a variety of different artists from different genres to view various expressions on the same themes.
At present I am working on a body of work that relates to home, family and memories. The focus for this will be good things about home and family.
